Can you believe your 7th grade year has almost ended?
Some of you are celebrating becoming "official" teenagers; others of you are relieved to have survived another year of middle school. It's been a full and fun year together, packed with sharing poetry and writing portfolio entries, doing student-led read alouds, creating memorable puns, and keeping each other on our toes with those Wordly Wise words. Now comes the time when you get to demonstrate all that you've learned this year! Your final "opportunity" will be: Wednesday, June 11th from 9:25-10:05a We will use the 8:30-9:10a time slot that day to play review games, so you're fresh for the final. Here's what you'll need to know for June 11th: -Wordly Wise vocabulary and definitions (you'll need to match the words with their synonyms) Use this website to practice and play review games: http://www.vocabtest.com/wordly_wise_3000/book_seven.php Select the lessons you want to review and the type of test you want. (The form the final uses is: Reverse Synonyms) -Basic plot summaries of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle; The Bronze Bow; Matched -The 4 skills that make a GREAT presentation -The definitions of the following terms:

Also here's a link to a website I'll show you where you put the information in from your bibliography cards, and it will format your works-cited page for you! Fill in the information you have and oila! a nicely formatted, typed and properly cited source: http://easybib.com/
Certain objects play a critical role in the plot of Matched by Allie Condie. But which object is the most important? That's up to you! Pick an object from the novel, make a model of it, and justify to the class why it is the most crucial to the storyline and the characters. Matched Object Study Project (see attached instructions and rubric)
Topic due Friday May 16th--but first come, first serve Due Wednesday-Friday; June 3rd-6th Oral presentation (no more than 3 min) -Bring object (model of the object) -Key Page #s where this object is mentioned -Why this object is significant -How is this object an essential part of the story (ie: Without this object the story would not make sense) You are trying to persuade the class that your object is the MOST IMPORTANT in the book, Matched. We're entering our final Novel Study! We've studied Realistic Fiction/Mystery, Historical Fiction, and now we'll explore the genre of Science Fiction and Utopian novels. As you read, think about the questions this type of novel raises about society and the way it runs. Would you want to live in this type of environment? What are possible drawbacks to living in a futuristic society like this one? Could any of this relate to real events in world history? Novel Needs to be read by: June 2nd Question Worksheet (completed with well thought out and complete answers) Due: June 3rd, typed

We have completed Lessons 1-20; let's see what you remember!! LINK TO REVIEW Use the picture below as a prompt or just start writing. You will have 10 minutes to write using as many wordly wise vocabulary words as possible (from any lesson!) to tell a story and have it make sense. Reference your Wordly Wise workbook if you need help. Underline or highlight the vocab words as you go. On Thursday (tech day), you will write your story on the "Free Write" section of your online English portfolio weebly website and add a picture (or this picture). Ready, set, WRITE. Several of you have expressed confusion/concern over access to powtoon.com and difficulty of mastering the program. I encourage you to continue experimenting and watching the tutorials on the site to learn more about it.
Due to this (and the lack of internet access when we've actually had to time to work on the B.Bow projects during class), I'm expanding the project options. The task remains the same, and it is still an individual project (each student must turn in a separate project!). Task: Create a summary-based book report that includes the key characters, story setting, rising action, climax, and major themes. Your presentation should HOOK the viewer and persuade them to read the book (don't give away the ending!). It should also show that you've read and comprehended the novel. This is a fantastic site to help you get started: http://thebronzebowbygr7.weebly.com/chapter-summaries.html Alternative powtoon options: -Make a Book Trailer (you can involve others but remember you each turn in a separate project and will be graded individually) -Make a music video or live music video -Create/perform a character monologue -Design a book jacket (complete with cover art, title, author on the front, and summary and recommendations on the back) -etc. PLEASE check with me if you choose to do an option that is not listed here. This project is due on Wednesday, March 19th. (turned in to Miss Diaz on a flashdrive or emailed to [email protected] Q: What is a powtoon? A: A cartoon-like presentation How do you make one? Way to use all your vocab words in a creative and meaningful way.
Prompt: Write the introduction to a spy novel using all 15 of your vocab words. The bountiful buildings collapsed the minute I got there. The bomb had blasted through the walls after I stepped out of the car. People assume that the bomb was camouflaged into a piggy bank, using the coins as make-shift bullets. Many people had been wounded by the coins which were sleek. The policemen hadn’t been wary enough, because somebody had been able to sneak a life-threatening bomb into the office building. I couldn’t believe that I was in the proximity of the bomb, and it didn’t hurt me. The floor of the fallen building was mottled with red blood. Most people were lethargic back at the spy base, which was a block away. Many people couldn’t hear it, because it was insulated with lots of sound-proof padding. Most people were just foraging for snacks to eat, instead of working on the case. The interest in the case was ebbing from my coworkers’ brain every second. Many family members of the victims were harassing our spy company from the outside. Nobody cared about the murky subject except for me. I think the bombing was a well-planned maneuver. We needed to replenish our supply of scientific equipment, but the annoying people outside our building were mobbing everyone that went outside. I guess all I can do right now is worry about the case. I had to wean myself from investigating. |
